Uatu the Watcher is a member of an ancient and powerful race known as the Watchers, whose purpose is to observe and record events throughout the multiverse without interfering. He is stationed on the Moon, from where he monitors Earth and its inhabitants.

Uatu's first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), appearing briefly among a group of Watchers listening to information from an informant. He appeared later as a character in the animated TV Show 'What If...?'

The Watchers are committed to non-interference, Uatu has, on occasion, broken this oath to help humanity, believing their potential warrants his intervention. This often puts him at odds with other Watchers.
